 About the Opportunity:

 Bankruptcy Associate:  Our Houston office is looking for a bankruptcy attorney to handle matters from a creditor's perspective arising under the United States Bankruptcy Code, particularly under Chapter 11.

 Essential Duties:

  • Licensed or eligible to be licensed to practice in federal courts in Texas.
  • Travel to hearings as needed in Texas, and occasionally to other states, particularly Delaware, New York, California, and Virginia.
  • Knowledge and experience handling significant events in chapter 11 cases such as DIP Funding, Sale Motions, Motions for Stay Relief, Plans Objections, defending Objections to Claims and Preference Actions.
  • Excellent writing skills.
  • Able to understand, analyze, and monitor simple and complex chapter 11 cases.
  • Determine the need for, and draft responses and objections to significant events in bankruptcy cases.
  • Work with support staff and local counsel as needed.
  • Communicate effectively with staff, opposing counsel and bankruptcy court personal.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 Preferred Experience: 

  • 5-9 years of experience in significant transactions in various stages of bankruptcy proceedings with a basic understanding of accounting and financial issues that affect restructuring transactions.
  • Experience representing creditors in bankruptcy matters.
  • Excellent writing and research skills;
  • Must have a strong work ethic, organizational skills, inter-personal and social skills, and be a self-starter.
  • Licensed to practice in federal courts of other states, particularly Delaware, New York, California, and Virginia helpful but not essential.
