 About the Opportunity

Our Houston office has an immediate opening for an associate attorney to handle matters from a creditor's perspective arising under the United States Bankruptcy Code, particularly under Chapter 11. We are searching for self-motivated and energetic attorney to work as part of our team. The ideal candidate will work with other attorneys and legal support staff under the direction of a partner.

Essential Duties:

  • Licensed or eligible to be licensed to practice in federal courts in Texas.
  • Licensed to practice in federal courts of other states, particularly Delaware, New York, California, and Virginia helpful.
  • Travel to hearings in Texas as needed.
  • Travel to hearings in other states, particularly Delaware, New York, California, and Virginia as needed.
  • Familiarity with significant events in chapter 11 cases such as DIP Funding, Sale Motions, Motions for Stay Relief, Plans, defending Objections to Claims and Preference Actions.
  • Excellent writing skills.
  • Able to monitor simple and complex chapter 11 cases.
  • Able to understand and analyze chapter 11 cases.
  • Determine the need for responses and objections to significant events in bankruptcy cases.
  • Draft responses and objections to significant events in bankruptcy cases as needed.
  • Work with support staff and local counsel as needed.
  • Communicate effectively with staff, opposing counsel and bankruptcy court personal.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Preferred Experience: 

  • The candidate should have 2-5 years of experience in large transactions in various stages of bankruptcy proceedings with at least a basic understanding of accounting and financial issues that affect restructuring transactions.
  • Some familiarity with collection of ad valorem taxes and other governmental receivables, open meetings, public information act and other law applicable to local government entities preferred;
  • Title examination experience Recently licensed, 2-5 years of experience, will consider exceptional candidates who are licensed with no experience;
  • Excellent writing and research skills;
  • Must have a strong work ethic, organizational skills, inter-personal and social skills, and be a self-starter.

Juris Doctor
